Savannah Georgia is known for its great kayaking weather. The best months are from April thru October. Rich history and great restaurants are abundant! If that isn’t enough, the oak trees are draped in Spanish moss for a really unique and scenic backdrop!
There are many great salt marshes to explore all along Georgia’s Coast!
I would like to share 5 great places where you can go saltwater kayaking in Savannah, Georgia.
Most of these spots are great for beginner kayakers, and they are easy to access.
1. Ebenezer Creek

Ebenezer Creek is a scenic blackwater creek that flows for 7 miles before connecting to the Savannah River. This beautiful creek is lined with cypress and Tupelo trees making a great canopy for kayaking!
There are several places you can turn off and access other lake-like areas.
This creek is not affected by tides. It is more like going down a lazy river which is great for beginners.
There are two great places to put in. The first one is off of Long Branch Road. Take I-95 Exit 109, north on GA-21 8.1 miles to Rincon, Georgia, east on GA-275 (Ebenezer Rd) for 5.4 miles. The road ends at Ebenezer Landing on the banks of the Savannah River.
The second place to put in is Tommy Long Boat Ramp. You can access it from I-16. From I-16, go west to I-95, and then I-95 north. Exit at S.R.21 (Exit No. 109). Turn left from the exit ramp and follow 21 north toward Rincon. The boat ramp is off of a dirt road.
2. Skidaway Island State Park

Skidaway Island State Park is part of The SouthEast Coast Saltwater Paddling Trail. This trail system runs 800 miles between the Chesapeake Bay and the Georgia-Florida border.
There are many family-friendly activities you can do here! You can go camping, hiking, geocaching and more!
I recommend putting your kayak in at Rodney J. Hall Park where you will find 2 boat ramps available. Travel North under the bridge and take the first inlet on the right. This will take you thru Sikdaway Island State Park.
This is a great trip for wildlife viewing as there is a lot of tall grass and wooden bridges.
3. Savannah River

The Savannah River is the crown jewel of Savannah, Georgia. In my opinion, this is the most scenic place to go kayaking in Savannah. I recommend that you put in at Houlihan Boat Ramp. The river is part of the Savannah National Wildlife Refuge, and the waters are safe and calm for beginners.
Just watch out for alligators because they are very active during the summer months!
The river is part of the Savannah National Wildlife Refuge.
4. Ogeechee River

The Ogeechee River is a 294-mile-long blackwater river. The river is pretty wide, and there are some great beachy places to land. Sometimes you will see sea turtles and herons on the banks.
There are several places to put in at Ogeechee River. I recommend putting in off HWY 17 going south. There is a steak & seafood restaurant near the boat ramp which is great after a long day of paddling!
5. Lazeratto Creek

Lazaretto Creek is a small tidal river that is great for kayaking, and it is one of my favorites for sure. For the best experience, go when the tide is further out and paddle until the tide is on its way back in.
There is a lighthouse that you can paddle around, but you can no longer go inside. You will probably see dolphins while you are out there, and they like to get close to your kayak!
You can also paddle your way to the northern end of Tybee island where you can access the beach.
As you can see, there are several great places to go Kayaking In Savannah, Georgia. Maybe you don’t want to haul your kayak down there, or maybe you don’t even have a kayak yet? Don’t worry because there are plenty of places to rent a kayak too!
There are also some great guided tours.
